HATTIESBURG, MS -

The trial a man charged with capital murder began Tuesday in the death of a Hattiesburg gun and coin shop owner. Gerald Taylor, 29, is charged with capitol murder.

In her opening statement Forrest- Perry County District Attorney Patricia Burchell says Edward Cameron died of a gunshot wound to the back on May 28, 2011 at his store called Collector's Point.

Investigators say Cameron was shot during an attempted holdup.

Ten witnesses took the stand today to testify including Cameron's mother, Charlene Cameron. Judge bob Helfreich is presiding over the trial.

Taylor's co-defendant, 20-year-old Drakkar Fleming, is scheduled for trial on March 19.

The district attorney says she won't seek the death penalty for Taylor. She says she made that decision after talking with the Cameron family.
