Mississippi Catholic Leaders Respond to New Pope

The leaders of Mississippi's two Catholic Dioceses offer prayers and support to Pope Francis I.

Bishop Roger Morin of the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi called Wednesday's selection of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio as Pope a "great day for the universal church."

Bishop Joseph Latino of the Catholic Diocese of Jackson says while the new Pope's burdens will be great -  he has faith Pope Francis will be a beacon of hope for the 1.2 billion Catholics across the globe.

Francis, the first Jesuit Pope and first non-European since the Middle Ages.

The new Pope is known for his work with the poor in Buenos Aires' slums.
