Former Governor Regrets Same-Sex Ban

Posted: Updated:
Jackson, MS -

Former Mississippi Governor Ronnie Musgrove says he now regrets signing a state law in 2000 that bans same-sex couples from adopting children.

In a change of heart, he also says same-sex couples should have the right to marry.

He says reading the U.S. Constitution made it clear that the government can't deny rights to groups of people.

Mississippi voters in 2004 adopted a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.
Musgrove served one term as governor from  2000 to 2004.

In a meeting of the 2A (Bassfield) and 4A (Forrest Co. AHS) high school football state champions from a year ago, it was the smaller of the two schools that came out with something to prove Friday night. The Yellowjackets used their bulldozer of a running back T-Rod Daniels early and often, as the senior scampered for two bruising touchdowns in the first half. Bassfield entered halftime leading 12-0, and ultimately won by a score of 24-7.
