USM Preps For BYU In NIT Tournament

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -The Southern Miss basketball team is getting ready to play Brigham Young University Wednesday night for the quarterfinals of the NIT Tournament.

The Golden Eagles spent Tuesday practicing. If the team wins tomorrow night's game they will head to New York to play in the Final Four of the tournament.

Head Coach Donnie Tyndall said he's confident that his players are prepared.

"We want our guys legs to be fresh tomorrow, BYU is a very talented well-coached team," he said.

One thing Tyndall said has helped get them this far is having players like Jonathan Mills on the team.

"He's a very unselfish player so some games he gets 15 or 18 points and some games he gets 6 points," he said.

"I think I've been playing good with the leadership skills coach has been working with me about ," said Jonathan Mills.

Win or lose, Tyndall said  he's satisfied with the team's season.

"This season has been the most successful, record wise in the history of the school."

Tip off for the game is set for 7 p.m. central time at the Reed Green Coliseum.
