Downtown Businesses Say HUBFEST Brings Revenue

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - One of the city's biggest event is taking over the streets of downtown Hattiesburg this weekend.

HUBFEST starts tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will last until 5 p.m. There will be entertainment, food, and retail vendors there all day. The Area development Partnership and the Saenger Theatre are sponsoring the event.

"We are very excited and we expect that about 10,000 people will come out," said Liz Radley, ADPcommunications and events director.

She said drivers should know there will be streets blocked off with vendors.

"Pretty much from 4th Street to Mobile and then from Buschman up," she said.

Not only do street vendors benefit, but so do local businesses.

"It brings people to there door," Radley said.

"This is a way small business can expose what they do to potentially new customers," said Betsy Rowell, executive director of Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association.

"All of the businesses downtown are locally owned everyone of them are mom and pops," she said. "It's important that we support those and keep our money at home that money turns over in our community."

Some stores are creating extra features to bring in more customers on Saturday.

"The Walnut Street area is doing a special sale and there's some special activities going on at Main Street Books," she said. "We are so happy that they hold that in the downtown area."
