A proposal to turn the old Forrest County jail into a mixed-use development is rejected.
The Forrest County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to reject the joint proposal offered by local companies.
Board President David Hogan says he was glad to see local developers make a proposal on the former jail complex.
H & H Land Company and Vines Realty and Land Company offered $362,000 for the purchase of the Walters Complex, Sackler and Carpenter buildings, and parking lots.
The proposal called for converting the buildings into a mixed-use development of retail and residential space.
