Former Jones County Junior College standout Akeem Davis has signed a free agent contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Davis quarterbacked the Laurel Golden Tornadoes to the MHSAA 4A state championship in 2007 and played in the secondary for the Bobcats in 2008.

He transferred to the University of Memphis after his freshman year and played three years for the Tigers. He played defensive back and linebacker.

Davis recorded 162 total tackles and had 13 tackles for loss during his career with the Tigers. He also had three interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Davis received the inaugural Lee Roy Selmon Community Spirit Award, which was announced on Jan. 19 in Tampa, Fla. He was one of 10 finalists for the ARA Sportsmanship Award and a semifinalist for the Coach John Wooden Citizenship Cup.

Davis, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound prospect, was a three-year letterman for the Tigers.
