Lady Bobcats win four singles matches in NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Arizona

The 21st-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats won four matches in singles competition here Sunday on the opening day of the NJCAA Division I National Tennis Tournament at the Reffkin Tennis Center.

Alicia Domoney won in No. 1 singles over Rachel Alford of Lewis and Clark College (Ill.), 6-2, 6-0. In No. 2 singles, Stephanie Smith defeated Elizabeth Arens of North Central College (Texas), 6-3, 6-2. In No. 5 singles, Elizabeth Wright beat Ty-chelle Williams of Harford Community College (Md.), 6-0, 6-1. In No. 6 singles, Brooke Martin outlasted Tiffany Munoz of Temple College (Texas), 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in a match that took three hours and 15 minutes.

In No. 3 singles, Carly Stuart lost to Torie Wake of Pima Community College (Ariz.), 6-1, 6-1. In No. 4 singles, Aja White fell to Loni Karris of Eastern Arizona College, 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 2 doubles, Wright and White lost to Alex Cox and Erica Richardson of Harford, 6-1, 6-4. In No. 3 doubles, Stuart and Madison Walker fell to Jenna Stevenson and Maria Rodriguez of Lewis and Clark, 6-1, 6-0.

In No. 1 doubles, Domoney and Smith drew a bye and will play at 2 p.m. on Monday vs. Patricia Husacova and Maja Sasa of Eastern Arizona.

In winner's bracket matches on Monday, Domoney will face Shannon Becket of Johnson County Community College (Kan.) at 9:30 a.m. in No. 1 singles. Smith meets Diana Perez of College ASA (N.Y.) at 9 a.m. in No. 2 singles. Wright faces Samantha Powell of Jacksonville State College (Fla.) at 7:30 a.m. in No. 5 singles. Martin plays Fatima Ouattara of College ASA at 7:30 a.m.

In consolation matches, Stuart meets Kirby Shannon of Central Seminole State College (Fla.) in No. 3 singles at noon on Monday, while White faces Sophie Baxter of Moraine Valley Community College (Ill.) in No. 4 singles at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

In No. 2 doubles, Wright and White face Baxter of Kayla Amerino of Moraine Valley at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. In No. 3 doubles, Stuart and Walker meet Alexia Alleyne and Laurica Nelson of Georgia Perimeter College at 12:30 on Tuesday.
