Oklahoma Baptist rallied from an early four run deficit as they defeated Central Methodist, 7-6 in day two action of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round.
Central Methodist jumped all over Bison starter Jordan Morales in the first inning. The Eagles got RBI singles from Jesse Zellner, TJ Singh, and Mike Allen as they surged to a 4-0 lead.
OBU slowly got back into the game as Anthony Almonte drove in runs in the second and fourth innings and Jeff Johnson added a sacrifice fly in the third to cut the lead to 4-3. The Bison continued to pour it on as they scored two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to open a 7-4 lead.
Down to their final three outs the Eagles had one last rally as they scored two runs in the ninth but it wasn't meant to be as Jesus Carlos struck out TJ Singh to end the game.
OBU was led at the plate by Kevin Hatch and Anthony Almonte who each drove in two runs on three hits. Morales regrouped from his shaky start and allowed just four hits after the first inning to pick up the win and improve to 7-2 on the season.
Shane Lowe led the Eagles going 3 for 5. Tyler Paule took the loss allowing nine hits and five runs in the 4 1/3 innings of work.
The Bison will return to action tonight as they take on South Caro Carolina – Beaufort in game six tonight at 8:00 pm. Central Methodist is eliminated from the championship and finishes the season at 25-13

Four Northwood University hitters combined for a four hit shutout as the Knights defeated William Carey University 9-0 in game five of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Milton Wheeler Field.
In a game that took nearly four hours to complete Northwood finished with eight hits and scored six unearned runs in a game that was delayed by rain and 51 minute power outage.
After four scoreless innings Northwood capitalized on the first of four WCU errors in the fifth inning as Casey Mullenix scored on Tre Keyes misplayed grounder to put the Knights up 1-0. In the top of the seventh Northwood increased the lead to 2-0 on
Adam Humes RBI single and then the wheels came off for the Crusaders in the eighth inning.
The Knights put the first two hitters on base then WCU first baseman Cade LeBlanc committed a two run throwing error trying to get a force out at third base that allowed the Knights to open a 4-0 lead. Northwood poured it on as Humes sacrifice fly made 5-0 and Joee Reyna two run single increased the lead to 7-0. Northwood added two final runs in the ninth for the final margin.
Issac Maturino led the Knights at the plate going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's. Roman Gomez picked up the win working 6 1/3 innings and scattering four hits. Northwood relievers Jason Heflin, Colton Reavis, and Andres Caraveo held the Crusaders hitless the final 2 2/3 innings.
Cullen Babin took the loss for WCU allowing one earned run in the seven innings of work. Cade Leblanc led WCU at the plate going 2 for 4.
Northwood advances to the championship game tomorrow at 4:30 pm against the winner of William Carey and the winner of game six (Oklahoma Baptist and S.C.-Beaufort).

Oklahoma Baptist starter Eric Fredrick fired a ten inning masterpiece and Garret Roberts provided the walk off RBI single as the Bison staved off elimination by defeating South Carolina- Beaufort, 3-2 in game six of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Milton Wheeler Field.
OBU got on the board in the first inning as the NAIA's leader in RBI's Matt Page rocketed a one single to right field to score Greg Nelson and put the Bison in front 1-0. Later in the inning OBU added a second run on a balk by Sand Sharks starting pitcher Junior Delatorre.
In the top of the fourth SC-Beaufort got right back in the game as Erik Armstrong smashed a 2-run home run to tie the game at 2-2.
Things remained scoreless until the bottom of the tenth Rafael Villar worked a one out walk and set the stage for Roberts' game winner.
Fredrick was sensational on the mound scattering six hits and striking out eight on the evening to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Carolina-Beaufort is eliminated from the championship and finish the season at 28-24.

Oklahoma Baptist scored six runs in the first and third inning as they cruised past William Carey, 13-5 in game seven of the 2013 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Milton Wheeler Field.
In the bottom of the first the Crusaders had all kinds of difficulty finding the strike zone as OBU sent eleven batters to the plate and scored six runs on just four hits.
Clint Ambrosch got WCU on the board with an RBI double in the second inning then it was déjà vu all over again for the Crusaders in the bottom of the third. The Bison again sent eleven hitters to the plate and scored six runs except this time they only needed three hits as they opened a 12-1 lead. WCU issued four walks and committed two errors that led to three of the six runs for OBU in the inning.
Carey would cut the lead to 13-5 with runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings but would get no closer.
Ambrosch led WCU at the plate going 3 for 4 with one RBI.
Brandon Laubhan paced a twelve hit attack for the Bison going 3 for 5 with two RBI. Greg Nelson, Matt Page, and Yael Colon each had two hits. Richard Lucas picked up the win to improve to 8-3.
William Carey is eliminated from the championship and finishes the season at 36-23.

Northwood University scored six runs in the first inning as they defeated Oklahoma Baptist, 7-4 in the championship game of the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round at Milton Wheeler Field.
With the win the Knights advance to the 2013 NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
After a ground out to start the bottom of the first inning, Northwood loaded the bases thanks to a walk and two errors then Isaac Maturino capitalized with a two run double to deep left field to put the Knight up 2-0. After a wild pitch allowed the third run to score Jose Reyna knocked in the fourth run with a single to left field and Logan Brumley added two more with a single to right to put Northwood up 6-0.
OBU answered back with two runs in the second on Brandon Laubhan RBI single and Greg Nelson's squeeze bunt to trim the lead to 6-2. The Bison continued to hang tough and Mitch Warne solo home run in the sixth cut the lead to 6-3 but Northwood got the run back in the seventh on Maturino's RBI fielder's choice.
Down to their final three outs the Bison loaded the bases and scored one run to cut the lead to 7-4 but Jason Gareri regrouped and got Matt Page to fly out to end the game.
Jordan Lewis went 2 for 4 and Isacc Maturino drove in three runs for the Knights at the plate. Clayton Woodruff worked six innings of relief to pick up the win and improve to 5-2 on the season.
Garrett Roberts led the Bison at the plate going 3 for 5. The Bison finish the season at 44-19.
