JCJC men's soccer team inks solid recruiting class

Posted: Updated:

The Jones County Junior College 2013 men's soccer signees are a mixture of athletic and academic excellence.

Head coach Oleg Baleyev notes that several of the players not only received postseason athletic honors, but were top students in the classroom, as well.

"I feel very comfortable with all of the signees for the next year," he said, during the school's annual "Bobcat Soccer Recruiting Special," which aired Tuesday morning on JCJC-TV. "We signed a number of players who will take care of business for us next year. Our main focus was to sign players to replace all of our defenders. But I think we signed a number of players who will help us to score goals next year, which was somewhat of a problem for us last year.

"I'm very pleased with the academics of these players. Next year, the standards are going to be higher in order to main your scholarship. Anytime students are performing well in the classroom it's less of a headache for me."

Signing as midfielders for the Bobcats are Evan Buckley of West Jones, Aaron McMillan of Pascagoula and Eddie Ramirez of Biloxi. Defenders are Daylin Britt of Florence, Reese Sloan of Stone and Tyler Gill, Aaron Stoeger and Devin Stoeger, all from Biloxi. Forwards are Nathan Farrell of South Jones and Cole Smith of Long Beach. Goalkeepers are Cody Anderson of West Lauderdale and Gabe Brown of Lewisburg.

"The players who perform more consistently are the players that stand out to me," Baleyev said. "Individual skill is very important in soccer, just like in all sports. You then look at how they are able to read the game. And I also look at how they execute the tactical aspect of the game."

The Bobcats finished second in the MACJC South Division in 2012 and lost in the state semifinals to Holmes, 1-0.
