Lady Bobcat soccer team signs top recruiting class

Posted: Updated:

The Jones County Junior College women's soccer team has developed a reputation for winning games.

And that on the field success has led to a top recruiting class of players from across the state for 2013.

"I would like to think that helps," said head coach Dolores Deasley, during the annual "Bobcat Soccer Recruiting Special," which was webcast Tuesday morning on JCJC-TV live from the Media Room in JCJC's Neill Student Center. "It's all about getting the new kids in and them wanting to do good things. They see how well we have done and they want to be a part of that."

In 2012, the Lady Bobcats posted a 13-1-1 record, winning the MACJC South Division and finishing No. 2 in the state. JCJC was able to sign players from 6A power Tupelo all the way to the coast.

Midfielders who signed were Carolina Berryhill of Starkville, Katy Carpenter of Florence, Smith Ann Chiles of Tupelo, Eevee Christy of Purvis, Courtney Miller of Bay High and Anna Mills of South Pontotoc. New Lady Bobcat defenders are Abby Johnson of Germantown and Macy Rogers of George County. Forwards are Lauren Arnold of Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Logan Simpson of South Jones and Lindy Tabor of Florence. Signing as goalkeepers are Briahna Dickerson of Gautier and Paige Williams of Stone.

Deasley said she looks at character and off-the-field achievements when it comes to signing players, in addition to their athletic ability.

"For us, it's not just about two years at Jones Junior College," she said. "It's about everything that comes after that. I'm excited about this group. We have been ready to play again since last October and with this group, I think we have the personnel to do to it. We are ready to go.

"We are ready for preseason to get here so we can get started."

Tuesday's show was hosted by Pine Belt Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes Director Mitchell Williams and was produced by Jared Meyers.
