The Marketing, Communications, and Creative Services staff of the Southern Miss Department of Athletics announce the "Rise To The Top" campaign for the upcoming 2013 football season. The over-arching goal of this campaign is to further enhance fan interaction with the football program through the various avenues and assists that Southern Miss Athletics has to offer.
"A fresh and new path to our future begins with our Rise To The Top campaign," said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeff Hammond. "This campaign will help promote our brand, enhance our fan experience, and grow our fan base. It begins with getting all of our great fans "on the playing field" and rallying behind Coach Monken and our great football team."
Over the next four months, the Southern Miss Athletics Department will provide fans with various opportunities to experience Southern Miss Football in an entirely new setting by heightening fan engagement and offering new behind the scenes opportunities. These elements include:
"The purpose of the ‘Rise To The Top' Campaign is to provide our fans with a unique behind the scenes experience," said Brent Jones, Associate Athletic Director of Marketing and Communications. "Our creative team has worked diligently to put together an exciting campaign that will highlight our football coaches, players, and upcoming opponents. Our aim is to provide our fans with new content they have never experienced before through our traditional and new media resources."
Each week, the football assistant coaches under first-year coach Todd Monken will take part in a "Meet the Coaches" video series. Each Tuesday a coach will be introduced via a video interview with John Cox, the Voice of the Golden Eagles. On the Friday of the week their video is released, each assistant coach will interact with fans in a Facebook chat on the official Southern Miss Athletics Facebook Page. Fans may email their questions in advance to SouthernMissAthletics@gmail.com or may post their questions in the comments of the Facebook chat thread. Emails are encouraged as all Facebook posting may not be answered due to time constraints.
In-depth stories on players, both past and present, will provide fans with a new perspective on some of their favorite Golden Eagles. A "Behind the Helmet" segment will take fans behind the scenes to learn more about featured returning players. Additionally, a "Where Are They Now" segment will highlight former Golden Eagle greats and where are they now.
The 15 prizes in 15 days promotion for season ticket holders return once again; however, this time with a twist. Those that renew their football season tickets will be entered into daily drawings for prizes that will be selected from June 1-15. Prizes include autographed memorabilia, opportunities for in-game experiences, a trip to an away game, and much more. In addition to these prizes for season ticket renewals, new season ticket holders will also be entered into drawings for prizes that will be selected daily from July 1-15. These prizes include autographed memorabilia, behind the scenes tours, pre-game sideline passes, and much more.
Southern Miss Athletics will go behind the scenes and break down each of the visiting teams at The Rock this season. The breakdown of each visiting school will include highlights of the school, coach, their players and pictures. For the first time in Southern Miss Football history, fans will have the opportunity to select which decal will be worn on the gold helmets. A two week fan poll will be held on SouthernMiss.com as fans vote for which helmet design they want the Golden Eagles to wear on the gold helmets.
Part of the "Rise To The Top" campaign will consist of community events (Seymour Flights). Twice a month, Southern Miss marketing staff, USM cheerleaders, and Seymour will visit towns and cities across the great state of Mississippi spreading Golden Eagle Pride by distributing football schedule posters, schedule cards, ticket information and promotional items. On-site ticket sales events will be extended throughout South Mississippi where companies and business can request the ticket office and marketing staff to come to their business to sell football tickets on site.
Go Gold Friday, which is in effect every Friday, will take a different twist as Southern Miss Athletics will be visiting local companies, stores, and restaurants featuring and recognizing fans who are showing their pride on Go Gold Friday. Fans that are highlighted will receive free promotional items.
The final component of the ‘Rise To The Top' campaign will feature radio ads, TV commercials, print ads, and billboards that will highlight the Southern Miss Football program and the ‘Rise To The Top' campaign.
