With the regular season winding down, the Southern Miss baseball team continues to build momentum down the stretch.
With three games left on the schedule the Golden Eagles sit atop C-USA with a 14-7 conference mark, as they lead Memphis by 3 games in the loss column.
After dispatching No. 14 Ole Miss 10-3 in their final home game of the season last night, the Eagles boast a 27-23 overall record.
With the Rebels in their rearview mirror, the Golden Eagles now look to take their momentum on the road to Houston for a pivotal 3-game series.
"You certainly hope that gives you a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence going into Houston in a big series," says Southern Miss head baseball coach Scott Berry.
Southern Miss sophomore catcher Austin Roussel explains the importance of the upcoming set.
"Conference is in our own hands, so if we do what we have to do, we can win a conference championship in the regular season."
According to Roussel, the team's success in Houston depends on three things.
"Hitting, pitching, playing defense."
"Hopefully we can do all three, but you have to have at least two like coach berry always states," says Roussel.
"If you look at the track record of our games, and when we didn't do two of the three, we lost the majority of the games," says Berry.
Southern Miss senior left fielder Blake Brown agrees, but paints a bigger picture for the team's task at hand.
"We need to go into Houston and take care of business. We need to get two out of three at worst, three out of three at best, and just take conference. Go from there."
