Marian, Ind. - With the temperature in the mid-40's and a steady rain all day, the William Carey University Track & Field teams got the 2013 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship underway on Thursday at Indiana Wesleyan University.
In the morning session the Lady Crusaders relay team of Tisa Smith, Ashton Scarborough, Olivia Shook, and Asa Evans posted a season best time of 47.9 seconds to qualify for the finals of the 4 X 100 Relay on Saturday.
In the afternoon Joash Osoro overcame a fall at the halfway mark of the 10,000 meter run to finish sixth with a time of 30:40.55 to nab All-American honors. In the women's long jump Tisa Smith finished 24th with a jump of 4.87 meters.
In today's action Smith will compete in the finals of the triple jump at 5:30 p.m. EST, and Osoro will run in semi-final action in the 5,000 meter run at 7:30 p.m. EST.
