Southern Miss Soccer Announces 2013 Fall Schedule
The Golden Eagles will take on three NCAA tournament participants from 2012.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Head Soccer Coach Mohammed El-Zare announced today the 2013 women's soccer schedule, a 20-match campaign with three NCAA tournament participants from 2012 to kick off his first season on the job.
"A big part of this schedule was making sure we covered all of our needs and challenges as a team in the pre-conference season," said El-Zare. "We'll take on a number of regionally competitive teams right out of the gate and that will get us prepared for what I expect to be a very tough conference slate."
The Golden Eagles will begin their season Aug. 23 when they travel to Arkansas State and swing back through Itta Bena, Miss., for an Aug. 25 game at Mississippi Valley, they first NCAA-tournament foe of the year.
Southern Miss then enjoys two weekends at home with matches against Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Aug. 30), Southeastern Louisiana (Sept. 1), South Alabama (Sept. 6) and Mississippi State (Sept. 8).
After a trip to Starkville to take on Jackson State (Sept. 13) and Furman (Sept. 15) in the Mississippi State Tournament, the Golden Eagles will split a weekend with a home match against Alcorn State (Sept. 20) and a road swing at Auburn (Sept. 22).
The C-USA schedule then kicks into gear and includes four new conference match ups with North Texas, Texas-San Antonio, Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion all joining the league to make up a 10-game conference slate.
Southern Miss will travel to conference opponents North Texas (Sept. 27), UTEP (Sept. 29), UTSA (Oct. 18), Louisiana Tech (Oct. 20) and Colorado College (Oct. 31) while hosting Tulsa (Oct. 4), Marshall (Oct. 6), Rice (Oct. 12), East Carolina (Oct. 25), and Old Dominion (Oct. 27).
The 2013 C-USA Women's Soccer Championship will be hosted by Rice, Nov. 6-10.
