Hattiesburg City Council Decides on Wastewater Treatment Plan

Posted: Updated:

In a three to one vote on Friday, the Hattiesburg City Council chose land application as the new wastewater treatment plan.

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality set a May 31st deadline for officials to decide how to reduce the amount of ammonia nitrate that's flowing from the city's lagoon system into the Leaf River. One of the main reason for choosing land application was to stop the discharge.

Now, the council must decide where to put the estimated 150 million dollar project. There are two options on the table. The council must decide on a design for the land application site by October 2014.
