Hattiesburg Mayor Winner Still Unclear

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After a long day of verifying affidavit ballots, it's still unclear as to who will be the next mayor in Hattiesburg.

The race is still tight between Incumbent Mayor Johnny DuPree and Independent Candidate Dave Ware.

Election Commission Chairman George decoux says they started verifying about 115 affidavit ballots Wednesday morning.

He says they have less than half left to verify before than can start actually counting the ballots. Once the votes are counted, they can then announce who the unofficial winner is.

Decoux says it will take about another day or two to certify the winning candidate.

They are not sure how long the process will take, but he says they are working hard to find a clear winner.

The election committee will pick up where they left off at 9 in the morning.
