Fan Vote Decides Southern Miss Football Alternate Gold Helmet Design

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The results are in on a vote held for Golden Eagle fans to pick the design of the alternate gold helmet that the 2013 football team will wear at least once during the upcoming season. The vote is part of the Southern Miss Rise To The Top campaign.

By an overwhelming margin, the winning design chosen was the inverted version of the current Southern Miss helmet logo. That design includes the words Southern Miss in black, which are outlined in white with bars on both sides, also shown in white. The design includes a black stripe along the middle of the helmet and includes a black facemask as well.

The goal of the Rise To The Top campaign is to further enhance fan interaction with the football program through the various avenues and assets that Southern Miss Athletics has to offer.  

Over the next three months, the Southern Miss Athletics Department will provide fans with various opportunities to experience Southern Miss Football in an entirely new setting by heightening fan engagement and offering new behind the scenes opportunities. These elements include:


  • Weekly Facebook chats with assistant football coaches
  • In-depth videos with the entire football staff
  • A "Under the Helmet" segment - highlighting current players and their favorites things on and off the field
  • A "Where Are They Now?" segment - aimed at highlighting former Golden Eagle Greats
  • 15 Prizes in 15 Days for fans that renewed their football season tickets
  • 15 Prizes in 15 Days for new football season ticket holders
  • Get to Know Your Opponents
  • Updates on the Field Turf, Scoreboard, and other renovations taking place at The Rock
  • On Site Ticket Sales Events throughout South Mississippi
  • Community Blitz of Hattiesburg
  • Featuring stores and shops selling unique Southern Miss items
  • Seymour Flights throughout Mississippi
