Jones Co. Deputies Arrest 2 Juveniles For Vandalizing Church

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Miss. - Two juveniles are behind bars after the Jones County Sheriff's Department say they allegedly vandalized Houston Road Baptist Church in Laurel, Miss.

Investigators said members of Hoy Boy Gangs are responsible for vandalizing the bus and doors the outside of the church.

"The Hoy Boy Gang is a local gang from the Hoy community," said Investigator Tony Madison. "We have in custody two juvenile black males at the this time.

She said a 13 and 17-year-old admitted to the crimes and being in the gang. Madison said the sheriff's department has seen an increase in gang activity since May.

"It's because the kids are out of school, she said. "One the guys said all Id id was just spray paint it, like it was no big deal."

Deacon of the church, Chuck May, said they've already paid to have the van cleaned up, but the doors of the church are still vandalized.

"Some paint to cover that up is what we'll have to do," he said.

May they addressed the congregation about the incident. He says most were concerned about the future of the two young men responsible.

"We're more concerned about the individual and their soul and not so much about what they are doing," he said.

Authorities said parents should become more familiar with their teen's activities to try and help combat the problem.

"Parental involvement is the only way that this can be brought under control," said Don Scott,  major of Jones County Investigations. @

Madison said if not, we will see a lot more of gang activity as the summer continues.
