FORREST COUNTY, Miss. - The Mississippi State Department of Health is reporting a case of west nile virus in Forrest County.
That's the second case for the state of Mississippi this year. The first case was reported in Madison County back in April.
Officials say last year, the state had a total of 247 cases of the mosquito-borne illness. Five people died as a result.
Health experts say Mississippians should take precautions to reduce the risk of contracting it. Removing standing water and wearing repellent and protective clothing will help.
