Southern Miss Baseball Set to Play Florida in 2014 in Pensacola

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – While the 2014 Southern Miss baseball schedule will not be released until later this fall, the Golden Eagles know one place and one non-conference opponent that they will face next spring.

The Pensacola Sports Authority (PSA) announced Thursday that Southern Miss will travel to the Sunshine State, March 4, to take on Southeastern Conference foe Florida at the Pensacola Bayfront Stadium. The picturesque facility serves as the home of the Double A Pensacola Blue Wahoos, and an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, which resides in the Southern League.

"We are very excited for the opportunity to play the University of Florida at the Pensacola Bayfront Stadium," Southern Miss coach Scott Berry said. "This facility is second to none and will provide a great experience for both our players and fans alike. This will also give our Alumni in the Panhandle area a chance to see us play as well as the avid baseball fan who likes to see two good programs compete at the colligate level."

Individual tickets will be available beginning in December by visiting www.pensacolasports.com or by visiting the stadium's ticket office.   Corporate sponsorship and group tickets will be available August 1 by calling the PSA office at 434-2800.

The Golden Eagles and Gators have played three times in their history with Southern Miss winning all three games. The two teams last played in the 2009 NCAA Super Regionals in Gainesville, Fla.
