Lock Your Doors, HPD Says Car Break-ins On Rise

Posted: Updated:

The Hattiesburg Police Department is still searching for 21-year-old Wauke Bullock.

Bullock is wanted in connection with a recent auto burglary in Hattiesburg.

For the month of June, Hattiesburg police have reported almost 50 car break-ins.

HPD's Lt. Jon Traxler says the there have been 18 car break-ins this week alone.

"The week before that we had 16, and the total for the month of June - we've had 41 and the month's not over yet," says Traxler.

Traxler says a lot of people are making it too easy for crooks to get into their cars.

"I would say 90 percent of them are left unlocked."

"Sometimes something's taken, and sometimes not."

He says to always be aware of surroundings.

"Don't leave anything visible to where if someone walks by, they can see it."

If people did those two simple things, Traxler says there would be less car break-ins.

"Then we can try to focus on the ones that are breaking windows."

He says HPD will continue investigating the cases, in attempts to find more suspects like Bullock.

Anyone with any information on Bullock's whereabouts can call Metro Crime Stoppers at (601)-582-7867.
