Posted: Updated:

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. - The Mississippi State Department of Health is now reporting a third human case of West Nile virus this year.

The case was reported in Lowndes County. One case was reported here in Forrest County and another earlier this year in Madison County.

In 2012, Mississippi had 247 West Nile virus cases and five deaths.

MSDH State Epidemiologist Dr. Thomas Dobbs says, Mississippi is entering into the high-risk West Nile season.

He says they typically sees more human cases in July, August and September.

Health officials say Mississippians should take precautions to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
