MS Fuego Gear Up for Alabama FC - WHLT 22 Connecting the Pine Belt

MS Fuego Gear Up for Alabama FC

Posted: Updated:

The Mississippi Fuego gear up for a matchup with Alabama FC, their last game of the regular season.

The Fuego enter Friday's contest riding a wave of recent momentum.

"It's just a good game so everyone's spirits are high, so I hope that we can keep working hard and keep the level of intensity up," says Fuego defender Temple Hughs.

"We're like super excited that we won at the weekend, and we nearly got a win at the end, so hopefully we'll take that into next weekend and do well against Alabama," says Fuego forward Danica Roberts.

In their last outing, the Fuego recorded a 1-1 tie against the defending WPSL national champions.

"We've got a tie against the Texans, who haven't dropped a point in two years - their first tie in two years - so that was exciting," says Fuego head coach Danny Owens.

With the Gulf Coast Texans in their rearview mirror the Fuego now have their sights set on ending the regular season on a high note.

"I think the girls are buzzing, and are ready just to play another game," says Owens.

"I think we're just taking it one game at a time - just get through Alabama and then see if we get a good spot, and if we can secure a good spot then just take it the next game," says Hughs.

The upcoming contest has postseason tournament seeding implications for both teams, but the Fuego maintain a one track mind.

"Beat Alabama," says Roberts."

Friday's game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the William Carey Soccer Fields.
