Hattiesburg Police Officer Arrested For DUI

PETAL, Miss. - A Hattiesburg police officer is out on bond after he was arrested in Petal for driving under the influence, following an accident that left a 3-year-old injured Sunday night.

Twenty-six-year-old Zachary Rooke is charged with first-offense DUI.

Petal Police Department Detective Mitch Nobles says, officers received reports of an accident at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Nobles says Rooke was allegedly driving a utility task vehicle at the time of the single-vehicle accident.

He says the three-year-old passenger with Rooke was taken from the scene to receive medical treatment.

Nobles declined to release the current condition of the child.

Lt. Jon Traxler with the Hattiesburg Police Department released this statement about the incident:

"He is a Hattiesburg Police Officer. It's a personnel matter that is currently under investigation."
