Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree's Lawyers File Motions Regarding Elections

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Mayor Johnny DuPree's lawyers are requesting the court to dismiss the claims filed against him by former mayoral candidate Dave Ware.

The motions say that even if ware's complaints filed against DuPree turned out to be true, Ware would have still lost by four votes.

They also want court to provide more clarity concerning the trial.

On last Monday's hearing, the court wanted to combine the petitions that Ware filed in Forrest and Lamar counties.

The motion says that the Mississippi Supreme Court has still not issued a statement ordering this change.

If the petitions are combined, DuPree's lawyers want to know if residents from Lamar County will also be summoned for jury duty.

The trial is set to begin next Tuesday, July 23.
