Phil becomes camp counselor for a day

Posted: Updated:
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

If you're a parent who has a child in summer camp at Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools this summer, it's possible they had WNCN's Phil Sanchez as camp counselor for a day.

Phil wasn't nervous about being 20 feet in the air to cut down trees and he wasn't bothered at listening to people share their complaints with the city of Durham, but for some reason he is when it comes to summer camp.

"I'm a little nervous," says Sanchez.

Before becoming an honorary camp counselor for a day, Phil has to learn the ropes from Camp Director Sara Elliot.

"We've got ages seven all the way to 10 and 11. You're basically just observing and helping the kids with the activity," says Elliot.

With that said, it was time for Phil to meet the kids. After a quick introduction, it was time for arts and crafts. Phil sits down with the kids to color and paint pictures.

After crafts, it's time to head back to the gym for games. The game is called sharks and fish. Phil joins team shark and the goal is to tag all the fish.

"For a day I was more than a camp counselor, I was able to be a kid again."
