Jones County Drug Bust: 16 lbs. Of Pot Confiscated

Posted: Updated:

JONES COUNTY, Miss. - A Jones County man is behind bars after 16 lbs. of marijuana is found in his home.

Melvin Graves was arrested at his home Wednesday.

"He's being charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,500 ft. of a church," says Jones County Narcotics Investigator Jared Lindsey.

He says Houston Road Baptist Church is right across the street from Graves' residence.

"Mr. Graves is also charged with child endangerment," he said.

Three small children were found in the house.  Lindsey says this is the largest drug bust the department has made all year.

"It's approximately $15,000 to $20,000 in marijuana."

Authorities also recovered about $1,300 in cash. Each bag contained about a pound of marijuana.

"He would be selling to the people who sell it in small portions," Lindsey said.

He said the drugs were all imported.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities say more arrests are coming.

Normally when you do a story about a shark you do a stand-up on the beach but not this time.  See these fishermen don't want to tell me where their fishing hole is.  It's not just to protect their spot

A sudden lurch in a creeping landslide in the northwest Wyoming resort town of Jackson split a house in two and forced workers to abandon efforts to stabilize the hillside.
No one can say precisely when the mountainside collapsing into this Wyoming resort town will give way. But it appears increasingly likely that when it does, it's going to take a piece of Jackson with it.
