Jones County Sheriff's Department Finds Drugs

Posted: Updated:

Derrell Ducksworth, Scottie Miller and Maurice Millsap are being detained in the Jones County Jail tonight.

Deputy Michelle Howell was patrolling in the Hebron Community when she noticed two vehicles that looked suspicious parked beside Junior's Pool Hall.

"We try to get down there very regularly because we do get a lot of complaints," she said.

Howell said Ducksworth, exited his blue Dodge Ram. Miller tried to walk off, but Howell and Deputy Josh Welch were able to bring him back.

She began questioning the three men about beer cans they noticed lying around and reminded them that Jones County is dry.

When she asked for permission to search the vehicle, Ducksworth denied.

Howell brought out her 4-year-old K-9, Chief.

"As I was circling the vehicle, I could tell just with the change in his breathing and the way his body language was doing, there was something in the vehicle," Howell said.

Chief alerted her to the passenger side of the blue Dodge and the driver's side of the other vehicle - a white F-150.

She found marijuana, crack rock, cocaine, Lortab, muscle relaxers, ecstasy, hundreds of dollars in cash and a hand-gun.

Narcotics Investigator Jared Lindsey says Ducksworth is charged with multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sale and possession of a fire arm.  Miller and Millsap are being charged with possession of a controlled substance. Bond has not been set, and more charges could be added upon further investigation.

"This is part of an investigation that we've had going for a long time, and we expect more arrests to come," Lindsey said.
