DuPree Will Not Appeal Judge Coleman's Decision

Posted: Updated:

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree says he has no intentions to appeal Judge William Coleman's decision that requires a special election.

He posted this statement to his Facebook page.

"My job as mayor has always been rooted in doing what is in the best interest of Hattiesburg. While some believe that appealing the judge's ruling would be successful, my belief is that it is time for us to move forward as a unified city.

There is no better mechanism to determine the true will of the people than an open and fair election, and to this end, I am looking forward to the Special Elect...ion. Progress in Hattiesburg has been held hostage to election proceedings far too long.

I ask that you stand with me, walk with me, and make phone calls with me to let everyone know that their voices and their votes count. I also ask that you pray for me, my family, and our city.

Thank you for your continued support."
