Local Church Opens "Turnaround"

Posted: Updated:

Local youth pastors are reaching out to give teens a safe place to have fun.

Christ's Church Youth Pastors Jeff and Kimberly Guined announce Turnaround Youth Center with hopes of building a mentoring program.

Jeff Guined said on Friday nights from 6-9, kids ages 12-18 can enjoy basketball, dodge ball, air hockey, ping pong, foosball, Wii, Xbox and concessions.

"It's just a positive environment to get them off the streets and give them somewhere they can come and have a good time and be around a good environment," he said.

The big grand opening tomorrow features a dodge ball tournament.  The Laurel Police Department, Jones County Sheriff's Department and mayor have already signed up.

Outside Turnaround will be set up like a festival with rap artists, local bands, a jump house and food.

"We're not trying to take people away from other churches," Kimberly Guined said.  "We're not looking for the un-churched. We're looking for those that don't have a home, a godly environment to be in."

The grand opening starts at 2 p.m. tomorrow.  The church is located on 2nd Ave. in Laurel.
