Lumberton Bicyclist Dead After Hit And Run

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss. - The Pearl River County Sheriff's Dept. said a 64-year-old man died after he was struck by a motorist while riding his bike on Thursday night.

Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said Luis Verez was pronounced dead on the scene. The incident happened on Hillsdale Gumpond Road, a quarter of a mile east of Gumpond Beall Road shortly after 9 p.m.

Authorities said the investigation shows that the victim was traveling westbound on Hillsdale Gumpond Road and he was struck from behind while riding a bike.

Investigators are searching for a Ford F-250 with a make and model year between 1997 and 2001. The vehicle has a broken headlight on the passenger side.

Tucker says they believe the truck could be white.
