Golden Eagles Continue to Ready for Trip to Nebraska This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon as they continue to ready themselves for the first of three-straight road games starting this weekend at nationally ranked Nebraska.

The Golden Eagles prepare for a Cornhuskers team which now hold rankings of No. 22 by the Associated Press and No. 19 by USA Today in the latest polls released on Tuesday. Nebraska opened its season at home last weekend with a 37-34 victory over Wyoming.

Southern Miss, which went through a two and a half hour workout in full pads Tuesday afternoon at the Joe P. Park Practice Facility, prepares a its second trip to Lincoln in as many seasons and the fourth time overall.

Saturday's game marks the 327th consecutive sellout for Nebraska at newly renovated Memorial Stadium, as Southern Miss hopes to improve on a 49-20 setback in last year's season-opening game.

The Golden Eagles trail in the overall series 3-1, capturing their lone triumph of the series in 2004 in which they registered a 21-17 decision, taking advantage of five Husker turnovers in that contest.

Coach Todd Monken's squad worked on cutting down the turnovers of their own in practice on Tuesday after they suffered six in the 22-15 season-opening loss to Texas State.

There is more practice scheduled for the Golden Eagles over the next two days, before heading out to Lincoln early Friday afternoon.

Game time is set for 5 p.m., CT from Lincoln and can be heard on the Southern Miss IMG Sports Network. The game will also be televised on the Big Ten Network. It will be the first of 10 televised games for the Golden Eagles in 2013.
