Cross Country Eagles Sweep Competition at Southern Miss Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – With temperatures ranging in the mid to upper 90s, the Southern Miss women's cross country team swept the competition in its annual Southern Miss Invitational after taking the top eight spots in the meet at the Pine Belt National Golf Course.

Sophomore Felice Johnson covered the 5K course in a time of 18:38.69 followed by redshirt freshman Rebecca Ulrich with a time of 18:43.70. Freshmen Kristin Zarrella, Courtney, Filliben, Daphney Stanford, Dana Dillistone and Kailey Hill all made their collegiate debuts while redshirt freshman Katie Canavin competed for the first time since last season rounded out the Golden Eagle finishes.

Zarrella finished third overall with a time of 19:24.25 followed by Filliben with a time of 19:50.40, Stanford ran a time of 19:58.50, Dillistone posted a time of 20:11.83, Canavin ran a time of 20:27.66 and Hill posted a time of 20:44.59.

Southern Miss' team scored 15 points to capture the team title followed by Southern University with 53 points, Tougaloo was third with 83 points and Stillman was fourth with 89 points.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Nashville, Tenn., for the Commodore Invitational on Sept. 14.

Southern men's team captured the team title with 21 points followed by Tougaloo with 45 points and Stillman was third with 54 points. The top finished Williams of Southern covered the 5K in 16:54.24.
