Volleyball Hosts Southeastern Louisiana on Military Appreciation Night

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Volleyball Eagles returns home to host the Southeastern Louisiana in a midweek matchup on Tuesday night in non-conference at 7 p.m. in Reed Green Coliseum. Livestats on GameTracker will be available Southernmiss.com web site.

The match has been designated as Military Appreciation Night as all active, reserved, and retired military get in for free with Military ID.  The first 100 fans will receive spirit bands. Also the Army ROTC will be playing a match at intermission (underclassmen vs. seniors).

Southern Miss (4-2) is coming off a 3-0 sweep of Villanova in the Nebraska Tournament to finish 1-1.  Quinci Hayward led the way with a match-high 20 kills and concluded the weekend with 33 kills.

Hayward leads the team averaging 4.22 kills per set on .314 hitting while Jasmine Crowell and Lydia Bonner are next with 2.44 and 2.22 kills per set, respectively. Crowell leads the team in blocks with a 1.17 per set average. Kristen Fleming guides the offense with an 11.00 per set average while averaging 2.83 digs. Mary Pursell paces the defensive with 4.61 digs per set as five other Golden Eagles are averaging over 2.00 digs per set.

As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 13.44 kills on .234 hitting, 15.89 digs per set and 2.11 blocks per set.

Southeastern Louisiana comes into the match with a 2-5 record after finishing with a 1-2 record in the Memphis Invitational.

Tiffany Thomas leads the team in kills with a 3.22 per set average while Landry Bullock and Rachel Bunn are next at 2.25 and 2.08 kills per set, respectively. Mikayla Shippy guides the offense with an 8.63 assists per set. Morgan Todd leads the team in digs with 4.23 per set. Bullock and Bunn also leads the team in blocks at 1.13 and 1.08, respectively. As a team, the Lions are averaging 10.46 kills per set on .134 hitting, 15.38 digs per set and 2.29 blocks per set.

Southeastern Louisiana leads the overall series with a 29-22 record dating back to the 1979 season.

The Golden Eagles will play in their third tournament of the season when they travel to Lake Charles, La., for the Big Daddy's Invitational hosted by McNeese State, Sept. 13-14. Southern Miss will face Prairie View and McNeese on Friday; then, ULM and UT-Pan American on Saturday.
