William Carey Ranked No. 1 Best Value College In South

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The U.S. News and World Reports ranks William Carey University as the No. 1 best value school in the South.

Dr. Scott Hummel, executive vice president and provost of WCU said it's a huge honor.

"We're talking, from Virginia, to Louisiana, Florida up to Kentucky," he said. "All of these colleges and universities, public and private, William Carey is ranked as the best value college."

He said the school has grown significantly over the last few years.

"We've been one of the best universities of the South for a long time now but a lot of people haven't known that," he said.

One of the reasons why William Carey is ranked so highly is for it's cost.

"We're very diligent about keeping colts down so college can be affordable for our students," Hummel said.

He said students at Carey get a quality education.

"Education is our largest program, we have a good nursing program, and we have the school of business," he said.

They've also added a medical school.

He said this high ranking helps lower the negative stigma people associate with Mississippi when it comes to education.

"People have an unfair and negative view of Mississippi," he said. "It's certainly an honor for us."

The school has about 4,000 students enrolled.
