JCJC Gets Set to Host First Ever Playoff Game at Bobcat Stadium

Posted: Updated:

Tomorrow's MACJC semifinal showdown rewrites history for JCJC.

It took 11 seasons, but the Bobcats finally get to host their first-ever playoff game at Bobcat Stadium - not that it is any concern to the head coach.

"I really don't know," says Jones County Junior College head football coach Ray Perkins. "I haven't studied that, I haven't studied the history of that at all. If it is it is, but I know I'm happy to be in it."

Rightfully so - at 6-3 Jones failed to reach post-season play in 2012, Perkins' first year with the Bobcats.

With a year of experience under his belt, the former NFL head coach led JC to an eight-win season in 2013, and more importantly, a first round playoff contest with Itawamba.

"They've got some really good football players and they've got a good team, and they did what it took to get here," says Perkins. "They're playing for the same thing we're playing for - the right to play in the championship game."

The last time Jones played in a championship game, Perkins was retired and Bobcat Stadium was not even open.

But notching a playoff win for the first time since 2002 could change all of that.

"It would certainly mean a lot for me," says Perkins. "I like to win. I like to win championships, and I think they like to win. Going through the year this year with them, I think they will prepare, and I think they will play hard and play hard to win, and hopefully we'll come out of it on the plus side."

The Bobcats and Indians square off at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Normally when you do a story about a shark you do a stand-up on the beach but not this time.  See these fishermen don't want to tell me where their fishing hole is.  It's not just to protect their spot
