Skeletal remains found in Fayetteville identified

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

The skeletal remains found in Fayetteville Tuesday were those of a woman who had been missing since September, Fayetteville police said Friday.

The remains were found Tuesday afternoon in the area of Winslow Street and Southern Avenue. The person was identified as Marcella Anne Thompson, who had been reported missing Sept. 26

The Fayetteville Police said the North Carolina Medical Examiner's office confirmed the identification of the remains.

Fayetteville Police said this remains an active investigation. Officials said they have recovered a vehicle that Thompson had known to be operating. At the time the vehicle was recovered, Pierre Rouchant Lowe, 38, fled from police before crashing the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Police have a warrant for Lowe's arrest.
