Southwest Airlines issued an apology to passengers on a recent flight from Tampa to RDU after the pilot said, "We're going down," over the PA system.
A passenger on the flight said she heard a panicked captain come over the intercom after the plane made a quick decent.
"What I heard was what sounded like static and then this loud shooting sound down the plane," the passenger said. "Seconds later, I heard what sounded like a panicked captain. He could have just been deliberate saying, 'We're in trouble. We're going down.'"
The 737 leveled out soon after the incident and landed safely at RDU.
Southwest said the pilot addressed the cabin accidentally as he was talking to the crew.
The airline issued an apology to passengers for any confusion.
