It's all in connection with an interstate scam to cash tax refund checks that were collected fraudulently.

Martinez made his initial appearance in court on Thursday.

During the car search, authorities found more than 30 checks along with 25 copies of social security cards that matched the names on the checks.

Martinez will be back in court on Monday for his preliminary hearing.
