Second suspect arrested in robbery, rape

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville police reported Sunday they've arrested a second man suspected in a robbery and rape at an auto parts store Nov. 2.

Smith Paul Merinord, 20,  was captured this morning and is in the Cumberland County Detention Center under $500,000.00 secure bond.

Morinard and Cortese Davis are accused of robbing an Advance Auto Parts store and raping a female clerk in Fayetteville. 

They are also suspected in an armed robbery two hours later at an auto parts store in Lumberton.

Police have filed the following charges:  

  • First Degree Rape
  • First Degree Sexual Offense (2 Counts)
  • First Degree Kidnapping
  • Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon (Business)
  • Robbery With a Dangerous Weapon (Employee)
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery
