A better way to travel with little ones this holiday

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Traveling over the holidays is taxing, especially with little ones in tow. Jennifer Durbin, author of Baby Traveling Tips for the Clueless Chick and Howcast.com parenting expert is with us today to show you a few simple ways to make traveling over the holidays easier on everyone.

Surviving a Road Trip

Personal Magnet Board: When it is time to plan for hours in the car, think beyond the DVD player. Pick up a cookie sheet at the dollar store and grab a few magnets off the fridge – voila, you have hours of fun. TIP: Whiteboard markers are the perfect for drawing on a cookie sheet.

Comfort Items: The most important part of packing for your little ones is remembering their Lovies and favorite toys. Or, pick up a couple of small new toys to surprise them with on the drive. It is also a good idea to bring a sheet or pillow from home; the familiar smell will help your little one sleep at night. TIP: For an added surprise, wrap a small gift for a little extra excitement.

Enjoying Your Flight

In Air Comfort: One of the hardest parts of flying with a little one can be keeping their little ears comfortable during takeoff and landing. If you are nursing, be sure to feed the baby at takeoff and landing. For older little ones, bring a few chewy snacks to help their ears pop; raisins, gummy snacks or chewy granola bars.

Packing Light: When you are flying, less is more. Take only what you really need and focus on compact items and gear that will do double duty like a diaper bag that will hold your laptop, a collapsible tot seat and grab and an essential diaper case for quick grab and go changes.

Traveling can be tough on the whole family, especially quick trips over the already stressful holidays when everyone else is also traveling. So, do yourself a favor and try to relax – which is of course easier said than done.
