DURHAM, N.C. -

Crystal Mangum, who falsely accused the Duke lacrosse team of rape, was found guilty Friday of murdering her former boyfriend.

She was accused of stabbing and killing Reginald Daye after an argument. Her defense attorney said she only "nicked" his colon.

Judge Paul Ridgeway instructed the courtroom that there would be no outbursts when the decision was announced.

Tears swelled in Mangum's eyes after the verdict, and she was handcuffed immediately.

Mangum wis facing being 170 to 216 months in prison after being found guilty of second-degree murder.

The jury took only a day to find Mangum guilty.

Mangum became a national figure after she falsely accused Duke lacrosse players of rape in 2006.

Mangum was accused of stabbing Daye during a domestic dispute April 3, 2011, at his apartment in Durham. She has claimed she stabbed her boyfriend in self-defense. Mangum is also charged with larceny and was found not guilty on that charge.
