Cold Case Series Part 2: Donald Haynes Jr.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg Police are still searching for a gunman who shot and killed a 35-year-old man in August of this year.

Donald Haynes' family describe him as a loving person who was always willing to help others.

"He would always light the room up," said his sister Rachel Garner Plummer.

"We were sidekicks," she said. "If I needed something all I had to do was call him or text him," she said.

She said all that changed the night of August 20, 2013.

"It was just a shock," she said.

That night, Lt. Branden McLemore Hattiesburg Police said they responded to a shooting on the 1800 block of Eva street.

"His body was found underneath the carport of his residence," he said.

Haynes' family and the police are still looking for answers.

"We don't know what caused this situation," McLemore said. "He got along with everyone and he had a lot of close contacts."

Police believe Haynes' killer was no stranger to him.

"We believe it was someone associated close with him but we could never tie down who that person was," McLemore said.

The family would like to know why.

"It hurts so bad for some to just do that and not know why," Plummer said.

They are praying that some one comes forward soon and contact the police.
