New Program Helps Hattiesburg Residents with Mortgage

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG -- The City of Hattiesburg is getting ready to start a new program to help families in need pay for their monthly mortgages.

The program is a partnership with the Mississippi Faith Based Coalition.

Mayor Johnny DuPree said it's an opportunity for small business owners who have lost income or families who have suffered job losses to receive a little relief.  A family could get their mortgage paid for them for up to two years if they qualify.

The home ownership days will be this Friday from 1 until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon.

They mayor said he hopes the turnout will be big because there are many families in our area who are struggling.

"They are still struggling trying to make those ends meet, to make sure they pay their mortgage, to take care of groceries and pay the health bill premium so this is an opportunity to help give a leg up to those people who don't have the opportunity to do that," DuPree said.
