MSU's Gabe Jackson Takes Home Conerly Trophy

If you check the list of major collegiate football awards, you will be hard-pressed to find an offensive linemen among the recipients - especially when he is competing against quarterbacks, running backs and the like.

However that was not the case on Tuesday night.

Mississippi State Offensive lineman Gabe Jackson takes home the 2013 C Spire Conerly Trophy.

The senior left guard is the first at his position to win the award.

In addition to the Conerly, Jackson also won the first-ever Kent Hull Trophy, which goes to the state's top offensive lineman.

"This is great," says Jackson. "I couldn't be any happier. I'm grateful and I feel honored to get that award. A lot of great players have had it."

"Even at the next level, people looked and saw a guy that's got a lot of talent, but they also saw a guy that's going to bring his lunch pale to work, and is a professional about doing the best that he can do and I think that's certainly going to help him in the future," says MSU head football coach Dan Mullen.
