D.A.R.E. Graduation

Posted: Updated:

Sixth graders in Hattiesburg Public Schools, along with Grace Christian celebrate their DARE graduation today.

DARE stands for Drug Awareness and Resistance Education.

Hattiesburg police went into schools to teach the kids the importance of staying away from drugs.

To celebrate today, the kids were treated with performances by Delta Sigma Theta sorority and the Hattiesbrug High School Drum Line.  Former sportscaster Mitch Williams was the key-note speaker.

Awards were given for essay winners from each school.

Lt. Jon Traxler said it's important to start teaching kids these lessons at an early age.

"When other kids come up to them and try to them and try to peer pressure them into it, they'll know, 'Hey. I don't need to do this because officer so & so taught me years ago why I need to stay away from drugs," Traxler said.
