Forrest Co. Police Investigate Gun Burglary

Posted: Updated:

Leaf River Sports General Manager Louis Swarts said he was called to his store around 11:30 Thursday night after alarms went off.

Upon arrival, he and police found about $25,000 worth of guns were missing.

He said it was a heavy loss.

"Some of the guns that they took were very hard to get," Swarts said.  "As you know, there's a shortage of guns and ammunition and the problem is getting them replaced in a timely fashion."

He said their suppliers are trying to help, and they have already restocked most of their inventory.

Swarts hopes to see a suspect in custody soon.

"These things happen," Swarts said.  "I don't know that you can do anything that would make them not want to do it because there's been several burglaries in some of the areas, and during this time of the year, it just seems to get worse."

Police are looking for the two white males shown in the pictures taken from surveillance. They drove away in this white 4-door car.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 601-582-STOP (7867) or the Forrest County Sheriff's Dept. at 601-544-7800.
