HPD Makes Arrest In Hattiesburg High Burglaries

Posted: Updated:

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Hattiesburg Police say they have arrested a suspect in connection with computers and other electronics stolen from Hattiesburg High School.

HPD  says one juvenile is charged with commercial burglary.

They say another minor has been brought in for questioning.

They expect to make more arrests.

School officials say the suspects are linked to the most recent burglaries that occurred within the last week.

Superintendent James Bacchus says the incidents happened in the same classroom but the electronics have been recovered.

In October, about 16 iPads and a MacBook Pro were stolen from the school.

He says some of those have been recovered as well.

"We had a situation where there was a breech in security with keys," Bacchus said. "One of our custodians left keys out and those keys came up missing. We changed some locks, but apparently they may have found a key that works."

Neither police nor school officials have said if the suspects, who are minors, are students.
