GREENVILLE, N.C. - A woman has been laid to rest after being hit and killed in a Greenville Walmart parking lot.

Saturday afternoon, following the funeral, friends of Jessica Anderson held a fundraiser to help her family pay for the funeral.

Anderson was killed last week after a car ran over her outside the 10th Street Walmart.

Anderson was 23 years old.

In an effort to raise money, friends sold barbeque and dessert plates. Friends also raffled off items, including a memorial cake.

Friends also made and displayed a memorial collage of Anderson.

Event organizers the day was about remembering their friend.

"What we do today is for the family and not to promote anything other than helping the family out. To support a family in need. That is what we are here to do," said Nicole Adams.

All the money raised today is going directly to Anderson's family.

Friends and family of a young woman are mourning her death after a fatal hit and run. Police say the driver ran her over in a Walmart parking lot and sped away.

It happened at the Walmart on 10th Street in Greenville Thursday night.

It didn't take long for police to find the driver. They arrested the driver in Grimesland, but not for the hit and run. It was for an unrelated drug charge. He bonded out of jail for $5,000 dollars Friday morning.

But some witnesses want him back in handcuffs.

Laura Caroline Fleming says she'll never forget the night she watched another woman get crushed by an SUV.

23-year-old Jessica Anderson died at the hospital, after police say a driver ran her over and left.

"I think I'm just in shock right now and I just can't imagine how her family is feeling. I'm just traumatized," said Fleming.

Fleming says the driver is her ex-boyfriend, 27-year old Brandon Yaw. She was meeting him at Walmart to get her CDs back, when a man came out of nowhere and started fighting with Yaw.

The victim, Anderson, was in the car with Yaw. Fleming says Anderson got out and tried to stop the fight.

"She got to the passenger side, and he ran over her," said Fleming. "The tire went from here all the way up and crushed her face."

Yaw's mother, Bonnie, wasn't there, but knows her son and Anderson had a relationship. She has a different version of what happened.

"Jessica got out of the front seat and tried to go around the front of the car," said Bonnie Yaw, hit and run driver's mother. "Brandon's foot slid off the brake and onto the accelerator."

Fleming says she tried to help Anderson by wrapping a hoodie over her body, but the bleeding wouldn't stop.

"To the Anderson family, I did everything I could to saved Jessica," said Fleming. "I can't imagine your pain and I'm so sorry."

Jonathan Ross is Anderson's ex-boyfriend. He says he's already in pain after their daughter died last year from SIDS.

"I want him to get what he deserves, that's all," Jonathan Ross, witness.

The driver's mother says her son drove away from the scene because he was scared and he was trying to get away from the guy he was fighting with.

Police say they do not believe Yaw intentionally hit Anderson.

Police believe he was the driver in the hit-and-run but have not filed those charges yet. They say more charges are forthcoming.

Police identified the victim as 23-year-old Jessica Anderson. She died early Friday morning at Vidant Medical Center after police say Yaw hit her with his SUV Thursday night.

Greenville Police say it happened around 9:30 in the parking lot of the Walmart on 10th Street in Greenville.
